JRC Stewards Hand Down Suspensions, Fines for Whip Use Breaches

The Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) Stewards have announced a slate of disciplinary measures stemming from inquiries conducted at the commission's offices at Units 15-17 Big Buy Plaza in Portmore, St Catherine, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Jockey Clive Lynch, the rider of Alchemy Of Souls in the seventh race on Sunday, April 19, 2026, has been handed a one race-day suspension and ordered to pay a fine of $10,000.00 after being found in breach of the rules governing excessive use of the whip during the contest. His suspension is scheduled to take effect on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Jockey Jemar Jackson was also penalised for the same offence. Jackson, who partnered Modern Monarch in the 10th race on Saturday, March 28, 2026, was fined $5,000.00 for over-using the whip in the running of that race.
Trainer Alford Brown, meanwhile, was summoned under Rule 247, which addresses conduct prejudicial to the interest, welfare, and image of horse racing. The matter arose from the seventh race on Saturday, April 4, 2026, and the Stewards opted to issue Brown a severe caution.
