JTA president challenges CAPRI education funding comparisons

Jamaica Teachers' Association President Mark Malabver has again said Jamaica's education budget share should not be judged against allocations in other nations. His position was first expressed while responding to a recent Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI) report.

That report said sectors serving children are receiving adequate spending, but the bigger issue lies in results. Malabver said Jamaica was assessed alongside countries including Finland and Singapore, a comparison he maintains is faulty because those countries put more money into education. He also pointed to a 2014/2015 study that raised the importance of fairer financial support for schools.
