NWA Closes Hanover Main Road After Kendal Embankment Collapse

Hanover

The National Works Agency (NWA) says traffic can no longer use the Green Island to Glasgow main road in Hanover, following a closure in Kendal.

According to the agency, the affected stretch is near the Apostolic Church in Kendal, where the supporting road embankment has given way.

NWA Community Relations Officer Janel Ricketts said heavy rain overnight on Thursday led to the failure of the embankment. She said vehicles are unable to pass through that section of Kendal.

Ricketts said an NWA team is on location carrying out the required assessment of the damage. For now, drivers coming from Green Island who need to travel beyond the damaged area are being directed to use Riley, Kingsvale and Prospect as the alternative route.

Motorists are being urged to follow the warning signs posted in the area and avoid trying to drive across the closed section.
