Kieron Pollard fined by BCCI for IPL code breach during Mumbai Indians chase
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has deducted 15% of Kieron Pollard's match fee after ruling that the Mumbai Indians batting coach violated the Indian Premier League's Code of Conduct.
Pollard, the former West Indies all-rounder, was cited for using an "audible obscenity" at match officials during Mumbai Indians' recent fixture against Punjab Kings. The disciplinary outcome also placed one demerit point on his record.
The matter was dealt with after officials examined his behaviour in the IPL match. According to the case details, the flashpoint came in the 19th over as Mumbai Indians pursued a target of 201, when Pollard allegedly directed abusive words at the fourth umpire.
Match officials moved quickly after the exchange and treated the conduct as a Level 1 breach under Article 2.3, the IPL rule covering improper or insulting language during games.
Pollard accepted responsibility for the incident and agreed to the sanction issued by match referee Pankaj Dharmani. While Level 1 cases are usually regarded as lower-end disciplinary matters in the IPL, further offences can bring heavier penalties, including a possible match suspension.
