Ten-year-old Shani Coke was discovered dead on Tuesday after being raped and killed in Troy district, Trelawny. Delroy Coke, the man accused of the crime, was subsequently killed by enraged residents.

Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison said the case underscored the threat sexual offenders present to children. In a statement, she urged Jamaicans to accept their shared duty to shield minors from violence, exploitation and abuse. Gordon Harrison also denounced the reported killing of the accused by residents.
