Mayberry VP Kirk Douglas blends markets expertise with discipline on and off the job
Kirk Douglas serves as Vice President, Strategic Finance and Corporate Development at Mayberry Investments Limited, operating where corporate strategy, financial planning and day-to-day execution meet.
He holds both the Chartered Financial Analyst and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designations, drawing on extensive background in capital markets, structured finance and corporate investing. Before joining Mayberry, he occupied senior positions at Barita Investments Limited, NCB Capital Markets and JMMB Group. His most recent prior appointment was Head of Group Corporate Finance and Strategic Investments at Barita, overseeing demanding mergers and acquisitions, fundraising exercises and alternative investment programmes.
Outside executive duties, Douglas describes himself as devoted to fragrance, active in cricket and guided by discipline, curiosity and balance.
On his passion for scent, Douglas said: "I have an expansive fragrance collection that at one point was over 125 bottles- my favourite of these is Christian Dior's Fève Délicieuse. I've always had a real appreciation for fragrance because it feels personal and expressive. For me, a scent is more than something to wear; it reflects mood, style and confidence, and I enjoy having a collection that lets me choose the right one for the moment."
His route into finance was unplanned. Douglas explained: "I ideally wanted to be a chef. I pursued business courses by chance, then realised I was good at it. What started as an unexpected academic path eventually became something I truly embraced. I discovered that business appealed to me in the same way cooking once ha. It required creativity, discipline and attention to detail, and it gave me the opportunity to build a meaningful career."
Douglas completed his CFA, CAIA and master's degree by age 28. He noted: "I had my CFA, CAIA and MSc by age 28. That milestone meant a great deal to me because it reflected years of focus and commitment to my professional development. I've always believed in pushing myself to learn as much as possible, and earning those qualifications early helped lay a strong foundation for the career path I wanted to build."
On the pitch, he remains a committed player. Douglas said: "I'm actually a cricketer. I play cricket for a team that participates in the Junior Cup 50 Over competition. Cricket is an important part of my life outside of work because it gives me a different kind of challenge and enjoyment. I love the teamwork, strategy and competitive energy of the game, and it's a great way for me to stay balanced and connected to something I enjoy."
Among his standout professional results, Douglas pointed to leading Jamaica's best-performing Equity Unit Trust Fund in 2022. He reflected: "I managed the best performing Equity Unit Trust Fund in Jamaica in 2022. That was a very rewarding achievement for me because it reflected the kind of discipline and responsibility that investment management requires. I was proud to contribute to such a strong performance and to help deliver real value to my team."
