Kirky D Turns Passion for Fashion Event Toward Jamaica Hurricane Relief

2 min read

Recording artiste Kirkland Falconer, who performs as Kirky D, has kept service to others tied to his music career for many years. Before he moved to the United States, he was known for assisting residents in Waterhouse, the community where he previously lived.

After settling abroad, that focus remained part of his work. In Connecticut, he started a talent showcase designed to help emerging artistes gain visibility and reach wider audiences.

His Passion for Fashion birthday event began in 2011. What started as a personal celebration has grown into one of the notable entertainment fixtures in Connecticut. The 2026 edition is scheduled for May 16 at MECA, also known as Jerk Pit, in Hartford, Connecticut.

For this staging, Kirky D said the party will also serve a charitable purpose. A share of the money raised will be used to assist people he knows in western Jamaica who were impacted by Hurricane Melissa last October. The event will also help fund community-centred initiatives.

“Giving back is important to us, and a portion of this year’s proceeds will go towards assisting some people in down in the western end of Jamaica that we are familiar with. We also want to support initiatives that positively impact the community. We believe in not only creating experiences but also making a difference beyond the event,” Kirky D disclosed.

Speaking about how the event has evolved, Kirky D said Passion for Fashion was built around the meeting point of style, culture and nightlife. He said the concept was never only about staging another party, but about creating a space where fashion and lively entertainment could share the spotlight.

Since its first staging, he said the event has expanded through bigger crowds, stronger production values and a cleaner overall presentation. The gathering, once centred mainly on fashion, has become an annual occasion patrons look forward to, with broader support, more striking visuals and a fuller entertainment experience.

This year’s show will be hosted by Kayla Di Diva, a former runner-up in Magnum King & Queen of the Dancehall. Music will come from Connecticut-based sound systems Fresh Sound Entertainment, YM Entertainment, Sky Level Movement and Schoolaz Top Shella.

Kirky D said Kayla Di Diva suited the event because of her stage presence, fashion sense and ability to control an audience. He said patrons can look forward to a stylish crowd, upbeat vibes, strong music and an environment made for people who want to make an impression.

Kirky D’s catalogue also includes Treat Her Right, featuring Lukie D, along with Passion for Fashion and Bad Mind.
