Jamaica Teachers’ Association President Mark Malabver says he is hopeful that vacant teaching posts will be filled ahead of the 2026/27 school year.

Around 300 teaching positions were recently advertised as schools continue to face staffing challenges.

Mr. Malabver said teacher migration remains a major factor contributing to the shortage, with some educators taking leave before deciding not to return.

He noted that the JTA is monitoring the situation as schools prepare for the new academic year.
