
NWC Hosts Western Water Project Tour

Western Jamaica is undergoing changes to their communities with the recent work of the Western Water Resilience Improvement Project.
After years of reported water issues, the National Water Commission is responding with results.
The National Water Commission NWC is undertaking a number of improvement projects to water systems in western Jamaica. According to acting president of the National Water Commission Kevin Kerr, the quadruple phased project is expected to bring relief to residents after years of complaints.
Kerr said, “I am also assuring the residents, our customers along this corridor that the NWC had listened to their complaints of no water and we are here today to demonstrate that we are actually implementing our promise and we will be back again in coming months to tell more about the western water resilience story.”
The project manager, Pierre Emanuel Faivre said discussions are being held to decide the best course of action for traffic management in the area.
Faivre said, “This traffic management plan has been developed along with our stakeholder, main stakeholder NWA the communities the member of parliament the consular the municipality just we come up with a plan that we think is the best plan for the community and the motorway user. And as you can see on site we are we are using one lane. I don't think we can do better than that but soon we will swap to two lane closure, unfortunately. Luckily, we have the police the Jamaica constabulary force that is assisting us.”
He also discussed the timeline for the phased initiatives with some to be completed within a 2-year time frame.
“The duration of the project of the phase one. The Greenwood to Montego Bay leg will be completed within 24 months for now 24 months. So, in 20 summer 2028 and the other leg will be completed in October 2028 and uh hopefully the entries two entries three will cover.”
