A tense early morning police operation in Greater Portmore, St Catherine turned deadly after two men were shot when a tussle ensued between both parties and one of the men allegedly grabbed a gun from a clothes basket and pointed it at cops.
The deceased have been identified as 25-year-old electrician Paul Francis and 27-year-old unemployed man Hooke, both of the same Greater Portmore address.
Reports are that about 5:50 a.m. on Monday, April 27, police acted on information and went to a premises in the area.
Upon entering the house, the men were reportedly seen inside a section of the dwelling. The police were preparing to carry out a search when one of the men allegedly engaged an officer in a physical tussle.
The police reportedly managed to free himself.
It is further alleged that the other man then pulled a firearm from a clothes basket and pointed it at the police. Officers took evasive action and opened fire, hitting him.
The situation reportedly escalated when the other man picked up the firearm and also pointed it at the police, and he too was shot.
Both men were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
