St Catherine couple bound in night raid as thieves take $10M and empty bank cards

1 min readSt. Catherine

A 51-year-old businessman and his wife in St Catherine were left shaken after armed suspects allegedly invaded their home near midnight, restrained them, took $10 million in cash, and put their debit cards to fraudulent use for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Detectives from St Catherine and St Ann are working the case together.

Police say the attack began about 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, as the businessman arrived back at his residence in Pleasant Farm, St Catherine. Two men with firearms allegedly confronted him outside and marched him inside under threat, then subdued his wife as well.

Investigators report that the pair was bound while the men searched the property and left with $10 million. The intruders also allegedly insisted on the couple's debit cards and PINs. Once they had those details, one of the suspects is said to have phoned a third person, who went to St Ann and allegedly drained the accounts through cash withdrawals and purchases amounting to more than $500,000.

The two men who entered the house then left the scene. The couple later loosened their bindings and contacted the authorities.

Linstead Police are heading the probe, with investigators from St Ann assisting.
