Somali Referee Omar Artan To Get FIFA World Cup Fee Despite US Entry Refusal

1 min read

Somali referee Omar Artan will not take charge of matches at the World Cup after United States authorities refused him admission following 11 hours of questioning. Officials reportedly examined alleged connections to suspected militant organisations, allegations Artan rejected. FIFA said the Somali official will nevertheless be paid his complete tournament fee. Artan, named the 2025 CAF Referee of the Year, has gone back to Somalia and is continuing with his career, which includes an invitation to handle the UEFA Super Cup in Austria.
