EU backs Jamaica utility upgrades with NWC partnership training and 5G roadmap

Jamaica is among Caribbean nations receiving European Union backing to bolster utility services and infrastructure, including talks on public-private partnership training for the National Water Commission and work on a roadmap for a secure move to 5G and future digital networks.

Marlene Lamont, programme manager at the European Union Delegation to Jamaica, Belize and the Bahamas, outlined the initiatives at the 20th conference of the Organization of Caribbean Utility Regulators in April.

Under the planned support, the National Water Commission is set to receive capacity building for public-private partnership projects. The European Union is also advancing cybersecurity and network resilience efforts that include the Latin America and Caribbean Cyber Competence Center, known as LAC CORE.

Together, the measures form part of wider European Union engagement aimed at strengthening Jamaica’s utility sector and preparing its digital networks for next-generation technology.
