Children’s Advocate Warns Of Online Sexual Exploitation Risks Facing Jamaican Children

1 min read

Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon-Harrison is warning that online child sexual exploitation and abuse is becoming an increasingly serious danger in Jamaica.

Gordon-Harrison said a number of sexual violence matters brought before her office have involved activity on the internet or other digital platforms. She noted that offenders often rely on social media to build trust with children they may later target, and pointed to sextortion as a further worry.

She made the comments during a virtual webinar hosted by the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children on tackling online child sexual exploitation and abuse in Jamaica.
