Motorists travelling north from Constant Spring towards Stony Hill in St Andrew Parish follow a well-known stretch of the A3 that shifts from Stony Hill Road into Long Lane before reaching the hillside community.

The journey begins on the A3 Stony Hill Road heading out of the Constant Spring area. As drivers continue north, the road enters Long Lane, where the main Stony Hill Road corridor gives way to the A3 Long Lane Road. At that transition, the old Stony Hill Road branches off to the left, offering access toward Rockamptons and into Stony Hill itself.

Along the Long Lane section, several named routes mark the built-up landscape on either side of the carriageway. SA Terrace and Four Winds Avenue lie to the left, while Fort Charles Road runs along the right. Further along on the right-hand side sits the National Water Commission Constant Spring Water Treatment Plant, a major NWC facility serving communities in the wider Constant Spring zone.

The route then carries traffic into Stony Hill and the adjoining Red Gallery area, completing the link between the Constant Spring valley and one of St Andrew's established hillside settlements. For residents, commuters, and visitors unfamiliar with the corridor, the sequence of junctions — from the old Stony Hill Road turn-off through Long Lane to the treatment plant and into Stony Hill — outlines how the A3 stitches together these north St Andrew neighbourhoods.
