Paul Graham has spent more than 30 years building Paga Photos in the Half-Way Tree Arcade, offering passport pictures, portraits and event photography to customers in St. Andrew.

Graham said his route into the trade began unexpectedly while he was working as a jeweller. A friend handed him a camera and encouraged him to use it. After shooting his first wedding, Graham said he realised photography could become more than a passing interest, and he left jewellery work behind.

From there, word spread in his community. Residents began asking him to cover birthday parties for their children and other occasions, giving him the start of a business he says he has continued without turning back.

Although photography has changed significantly with new technology, Graham said Paga Photos has stayed focused on careful service and personal attention. The business handles weddings, photo shoots, business headshots, editing, old-photo restoration and other photography-related work. Customers can also use studio backdrops for headshots and full photographs.

Paga Photos also sells frames in sizes including 8x10, 6x8 and 5x7, and offers photo plaques. Graham said customers may bring in their own pictures for plaques, with the finished product available within three days.

For people hoping to start a business, Graham said talent and genuine passion are essential. He said photography is his art, and without that commitment, an entrepreneur is likely to give up. The shop is located beside the passport office on Constant Spring Road, inside the arcade at Lane A, Shop 16.
