St. Catherine schools and police work to keep students away from gang influence

Educational institutions across St. Catherine, particularly in St. Catherine North, are being described as central to efforts to protect young people from gang involvement and to strengthen community safety.

During a FORCE4GOOD podcast segment on community safety and security, a contributor noted that many residents have benefited from the range of schools in the parish. The discussion turned to how critical it has become to win young people's support and to keep them from being drawn into criminal activity.

The approach is described as long-term work that began years ago rather than a recent campaign.

Recent gains are being credited to sustained collaboration between educational institutions and the police. Supporters of the model argue that when schools and law enforcement align on discipline, oversight and student welfare, communities stand a better chance of breaking the connection between classrooms and gangs.
