Lizanne Azan Shares Faith-Based Lessons From Marriage Mastery
Life and health coach Lizanne Azan is sharing lessons from more than three decades of marriage in her new book, Marriage Mastery: 31 Tips for Everlasting Love. The author, who was also previously a business coach, said the project grew out of her personal journey with her husband, Omar, and her belief that their marriage reflects God’s faithfulness.
Azan said the idea for a book came years ago, but she resisted it because she had been diagnosed in childhood with a learning disability connected to reading and writing. She said that changed after a retreat, where a prophetic word encouraged her to write two books. She described the decision to complete Marriage Mastery as an act of obedience rather than confidence.
The book is rooted in Christian teaching. Azan said she and Omar entered marriage after premarital counselling but later reached a serious crossroads. Both had come from divorced homes, and she said they had considered themselves Christians without studying the Bible closely or understanding a biblical model for marriage.
At that difficult point, she said, they decided they did not want “a legacy of divorce” and treated the crisis as something to face together. “This is not an I thing, this is a we thing,” she said, explaining that they pursued both individual counselling and couples counselling while learning from scripture about marriage.
Marriage Mastery contains 31 short lessons, a number Azan linked to her 31 years of marriage at the time of writing and to the idea of reading one lesson each day for a month. Topics include friendship in marriage, recognising triggers, patience, forgiveness, fidelity, choosing supportive community, and biblical guidance for husbands and wives.
Each lesson includes a message, a prayer, a practical exercise and related scripture. Azan said readers have responded positively to the book’s accessible format, with interest coming from singles, engaged couples, newlyweds and people who have been married for many years. She also said a workbook may follow, as some readers have asked to use the material for Bible study or small groups.
Azan and Omar have led marriage small groups for some time. She said sharing their story required vulnerability, but their experience through coaching and ministry has allowed them to encourage others that damaged relationships can heal.
