The Full Story

Local manufacturers and artisans are being invited to apply for participation in the 12th staging of the highly anticipated ‘Christmas in July’ trade show, set for July 9 and 10 at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, in New Kingston.

Interested persons are being asked to submit their applications via the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) website at https://tef.gov.jm/cij/.

Describing the event as a vibrant and festive marketplace, Director, Tourism Linkages Network, Carolyn McDonald-Riley, said the event brings together a wide cross-section of buyers and producers in an atmosphere reminiscent of the holiday season.

“Christmas in July is where everybody is happy; it’s just like Christmas. It is a melting pot of the corporate sector, government entities, embassies, missions, international organisations, targeted buyers and of course, the ordinary consumers,” she said.

The two-day exhibition will showcase a wide range of locally made products, with a strong focus on souvenir items and innovative gifting solutions. Categories include aromatherapy, processed foods, fashion and accessories, fine arts, décor, and items made from organic and natural fibres.

“We want persons to sign up for Christmas in July. You just might have that product that everybody who comes to Jamaica wants. So, get creative, start thinking about it, but don’t just think about it, register and you have until May 29 to do so,” said Mrs. McDonald-Riley.

“We are looking forward to seeing some new and inspiring pieces so that we can showcase them in the summer,” she added.

She further informed that applicants will undergo a thorough assessment process conducted by a panel comprising representatives from key agencies, including the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO), Bureau of Standards Jamaica, Trade Board Limited, Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), and the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA).

Beyond selection for the showcase, she highlighted that the initiative serves as a developmental platform for entrepreneurs.

“While Christmas in July is the end game, it is really a workshop that takes you through the entire process of getting you ready for the market world,” said Mrs. McDonald-Riley, adding that participants will receive guidance on product development, standards, and how to position their goods for local and international markets.

Mrs. McDonald-Riley emphasised that despite the challenges associated with Hurricane Melissa, the aim is to attract participation levels comparable to 2025, which saw as many as 178 exhibitors.

“We are optimistic that we will still have quite a number of persons on the show. In fact, registration already shows 105 persons. So, I know that we are in for a wonderful time,” she said.

Mrs. McDonald-Riley further underscored the long-term benefits of participation, noting that businesses gain sustained exposure through catalogues, digital platforms, and networking opportunities with high-level buyers.

“It’s endless opportunities, and it’s where a lot of big companies have started. They’ve moved on to have their own store or storefronts in other spaces. It’s a launching pad for several businesses,” she said.
