Trelawny: Fire Ravages Businesses in FalmouthA large fire caused extensive damage to several businesses in Falmouth on Tuesday, June 30.

The fire damaged the well-known Richie’s Real Deal fabric store and the Slots of Fun Gaming Lounge, along with a nightclub and a recording studio.

According to an eyewitness, the fire started sometime Tuesday morning and quickly spread to the nearby concrete and wooden structures.

Residents of Falmouth are reeling from the loss of the fabric store, which is considered one of the most popular and affordable in the parish.

One woman, who had shopped at the store for several years, said she was saddened by the loss of the establishment.

“I really feel it that the fabric store has burned down. We will now have to go to Montego Bay to buy material for our children’s back-to-school uniforms. This is the one fabric store we could always rely on when it came to buying khaki and other school uniform materials.”

The Slots of Fun Gaming Lounge, which is owned by a popular businessman, was also badly damaged. Many patrons are saddened by the loss, as it was a popular place to relax after work, especially on Fridays.

A visit to the scene on Tuesday morning saw several firefighters from the Falmouth and St James Fire Departments carrying out cooling-down operations.

Up to press time, the cause of the fire was not known. However, the police and fire investigators are continuing their investigations.
