Man Killed in Police Shooting: An investigation has been launched by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) following the fatal police shooting of a man along the Spanish Town Bypass in St Catherine on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified by the police as Juwayne Powell, otherwise known by the aliases “Fully Bad” and “John Whip,” of Spanish Town.

According to police reports, at about 6:12 p.m., officers received information that a man armed with a firearm was travelling from the Capture Land community towards the bypass.

A police team travelling in an unmarked service vehicle responded and reportedly observed a man matching the description near the Food For the Poor property.

The police say the officers identified themselves before attempting to accost the man. It is alleged that Powell drew a firearm and opened fire at the police.

The officers reportedly took evasive action and returned fire, during which Powell was shot and injured.

He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police reported that a .38 revolver loaded with four live rounds and two spent shells was recovered from the scene.

INDECOM has since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
