St James homicide suspect Dane Watson surrenders to police in St Mary

A 31-year-old man whom investigators had flagged as a person of interest in a St. James killing last month is now in police custody. Dane Anthony Watson was wanted for questioning about the death of Melissa Kerry Sammoth, 42, of New York, United States of America.
Police said Watson came forward on his own to the St. Mary police yesterday. On Tuesday, 29 April, Ms. Sammoth was taken to Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James. She had multiple injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Reports are that St. Mary police were told Watson was prepared to surrender but was concerned about his safety. After coordination between the force and his family, he was escorted to the Gayle police station and formally handed over to the investigative team without incident.
