Manchester council pays tribute to former MP Anthony Dean Peart

The Manchester Municipal Corporation set aside its regular business on Tuesday to honour the life and legacy of former Member of Parliament Anthony Dean Peart, with councillors and relatives reflecting on his long record of public service in the parish.

Before turning to the scheduled agenda, the council remembered Peart as a committed public servant whose influence in Manchester stretched beyond party lines. Mayor Donovan Mitchell opened the tributes, recognising the groundwork laid by Peart and earlier office-holders, and offered condolences to the bereaved.

"On behalf of the councilors and administration of the people of Manchester, I extend our sincere sympathies to the Peart's family. May they find comfort in knowing that this service has not been forgotten and that his contribution to the parish will remain part of the history for many years to come," Mitchell said.

Councillor Jones Oliphant described Peart as a brave and steadfast representative whose work won regard among colleagues and constituents.

"DNA built a legacy that I don't know if any other politician can build such legacy. In Northwest Manchester, he had the best the best community centers. And the roads at that time when he was MP were the best in the parish," Oliphant said.

Speaking for the family, nephew Ryan Peart cast his uncle as a devoted relative, mentor and servant of the people, and recalled Peart’s passion for building.

"Outside of politics, he loved construction. There was nothing he couldn't do. When building his house, he jumped right on site, getting his hands dirty, doing everything from plumbing to electrical. Working alongside him on those houses are memories I will always cherish," Ryan Peart said.
