Two killed in Saturday night shooting on Caledonia Road, Mandeville

1 min readManchester

Manchester police are investigating a double killing after a nursing student, 24, and a water delivery worker, 21, were fatally shot along Caledonia Road near Horse Shoe Corner in Mandeville on Saturday night.

The dead have been named as Deneekia Pounall, 24, a nursing student of Heartease District, Mandeville, and Sadefa Henry, 21, a water delivery man of Marvel Close Top, Greenvale, Mandeville.

Police say an unidentified gunman opened fire on the two at about 8:05 p.m. Both were taken to the Mandeville Regional Hospital and died there while receiving care.

The Mandeville Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is heading the probe.

The killings come amid a rise in murders in Manchester. Force figures show the parish had logged 18 killings up to July 11, against 15 for the same stretch last year — a 20 per cent jump.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force has also newly installed a divisional commander for Manchester, with Deputy Superintendent Odean Dennis succeeding Superintendent Carey Duncan.

Anyone with information that could help the inquiry is asked to call the Mandeville CIB, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station.
