Marathon Insurance Brokers signs on as lead sponsor for Jamaica's largest Commonwealth and CAC Games squads

2 min read

Marathon Insurance Brokers (MIB) has renewed its pledge to Jamaican sport, taking its place as a principal sponsor behind the country's largest-ever combined squad for the Commonwealth Games and the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.

Representatives from the firm stood with Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) officials, athletes and other partners at Thursday's official launch of the national campaign for the two championships, which run from late July into early August.

Jamaica will take part in 27 sporting disciplines at the events, among them eSports, in what has been described as a historic first for the country.

Speaking with reporters after the launch, Joseth Brown, Business Development, Marketing and Public Relations Manager at Marathon Insurance Brokers, said the company was proud to be part of a significant chapter in Jamaica's sporting history.

"We are happy to be a part of this history in the making. So, we're happy that we're on board for this epic event. Twenty-seven disciplines that we're participating in and it's the first in Jamaica. We're very happy about it," Brown said.

She said Marathon Insurance Brokers has consistently invested in initiatives that contribute to national development, with sport remaining a key pillar of the company's corporate social responsibility programme.

"We continue to support Jamaica and we continue to support athletics in Jamaica. It's our heart." Brown said the company's philosophy is centred on creating opportunities and investing in future generations through sport.

"We have a foundation of investing in the future and so sports is one of those disciplines that allows you to invest in the future."

She added that the values which have guided Marathon Insurance Brokers since its founding align closely with the qualities displayed by Jamaica's athletes on the international stage.

"Marathon is built on support, it's built on resilience, it's built on love. It's the magnanimous heart of Marathon Insurance Brokers and our founder, Richard Burgher, who continues to propel us to participate in these ventures."

Brown also offered words of encouragement to Team Jamaica as athletes prepare to compete on two international stages.

"Go with heart."

Jamaica is expected to field its largest delegation ever for the two championships, with athletes competing across dozens of disciplines. The inclusion of eSports reflects the continued expansion of the country's sporting programme as Jamaica embraces emerging events alongside its traditional strengths.

The Commonwealth Games remain one of the world's premier multi-sport events, bringing together athletes from across the Commonwealth, while the CAC Games, first staged in 1926, are the oldest continuing regional multi-sport competition.

Jamaica has enjoyed sustained success at both events, particularly in athletics, and will be seeking another strong medal haul during this year's competitions.

Through its sponsorship of Team Jamaica, Marathon Insurance Brokers said it is proud to stand behind the nation's athletes as they pursue excellence and continue Jamaica's rich sporting legacy on the regional and international stage.
