Golding urges civic groups to press for Wheatley's removal from Cabinet
Opposition Leader Mark Golding has appealed to civic-minded Jamaicans and every organisation with a stake in the country's advancement to demand that Dr. Andrew Wheatley be removed from the Cabinet without delay.
The push follows an Integrity Commission report that was tabled in Parliament yesterday. The body has concluded that Dr. Wheatley ought to face charges on several counts, including illicit enrichment.
At a press conference held today, Mr. Golding warned that public trust in the Government's integrity standards is already under strain. Keeping a Cabinet member in office while criminal charges loom, he argued, would only deepen that crisis.
He further dismissed Dr. Wheatley's assertion that material exists to support his defence, saying such claims carry no weight at this stage.
