Met Service warns of damaging winds and rough seas across Jamaica through Saturday

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica says a low-level jet stream over the Central Caribbean is pushing powerful winds across the island, creating the possibility of some damage to infrastructure as the weekend approaches.

According to the agency, the system has been affecting Jamaica since yesterday. The most severe conditions are forecast for southern parishes and nearby offshore waters.

The Met Service says the strong winds should continue over Jamaica and its territorial waters until Saturday. Fishers and other marine operators, particularly those working inshore and offshore along the south coast, are being urged to take extreme care as seas are expected to remain dangerous because of the winds.

Forecasters say the weather feature remains under observation.
