Labour Ministry to Set Up SAFE Task Force for Jamaica BPO Workplaces

Jamaica’s Ministry of Labour and Social Security is moving to create the Standards, Accountability and Fairness in Employment (SAFE) Task Force as part of fresh efforts to strengthen monitoring and labour-standard compliance in the country’s BPO industry.
Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Jr. said the programme will prioritise dialogue with workers, education on employee rights, workplace wellness, and partnership with employers instead of a punishment-first approach.
The ministry also plans to roll out a Decent Work Partnership Recognition Programme aimed at promoting better employment practices across sectors. Charles said work is continuing on an unemployment insurance benefit, which is expected to be introduced within two years.
