Labour Ministry Sets 2026 Emancipation and Independence Observance Dates

Ahead of Jamaica’s Emancipation and Independence celebrations, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security has restated the public holiday schedule for 2026.
Under the Holidays (Public General) Act, Emancipation Day will fall on Saturday, August 1, 2026, the Ministry confirmed. Independence Day will be marked on Thursday, August 6.
Officials also stressed that Friday, August 7, will not be a holiday and workplaces should operate as usual.
