Christian stylist Monique McLeggon unveils colourful modest summer outfits

Modest dress once meant dull colours, baggy cuts and rigid rules. A fresh wave of Christian women is overturning that image, treating clothes as a way to honour belief and personal taste at once.

Among them is Christian fashion and lifestyle creator Monique McLeggon. Her looks mix polish with playfulness — bright, bold and occasionally surprising, yet always deliberate.

“For me, modesty is more about choosing pieces that feel joyful, comfortable and authentic, while still honouring my values and less about hiding beneath layers of fabric,” McLeggon said. “Styling is a form of ministry. Through fashion, I want women to celebrate their individuality and show up boldly and confidently as the people God created them to be.”

As Jamaica swelters through summer, she demonstrates that covered dressing need not feel heavy or dull. Her choices pair enough coverage with airy shapes and careful finishing, ready for church, brunch, daytime festivities or open-air worship without looking samey.

The outfits also double as inspiration for people heading to Come Alive: A National Call to Worship on Saturday, August 1, on the East Lawn of King’s House. Line-up names include Michael W. Smith, Papa San, Jermaine Edwards, Johnmark Wiggan and additional ministers and worship leaders.
