Morgan accuses Opposition of fear-mongering over TCN agreement

Government Senator Marlon Morgan has accused the Opposition of seeking to stir up fear among citizens over the Third Country National (TCN) agreement between Jamaica and the United States.

He is rejecting statements by Opposition Senator Lambert Brown about people who will transit through Jamaica under the agreement.

Mr. Brown spoke on the issue at Friday’s sitting of the Upper House.

While commenting on the Civil Aviation Amendment Bill, Brown expressed his discontent with the proposed TCN arrangement.

Senator Brown also questioned why the government was allegedly accepting “dangerous” people under the arrangement.

In a statement yesterday, Senator Morgan described Brown’s rhetoric as reckless noting that the Government will protect Jamaica’s interest in the matter.

Mr. Morgan explained that the Memorandum of Understanding which the United States has agreed with more than 20 territories in the region seeks to facilitate the temporary transit of a limited number of people on their way to their home country.
