Constable Chevon Davey dies in Clarendon crash as police investigate killings islandwide
The Jamaica Constabulary Force is mourning the death of Constable Chevon Davey, who was killed in a motor vehicle crash along the Swansea main road in Toll Gate, Clarendon, early on Friday, July 10.
Reports indicate that shortly after 5:00 a.m., Davey was travelling west when bystanders came upon his overturned vehicle in nearby bushes. He was assigned to the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch in Manchester. Colleagues described him as dedicated and enthusiastic about his work, and said his death has caused deep distress within the division, with counselling being sought for affected members. The circumstances of the crash remain unclear, and investigations are continuing.
In St. James, Senior Superintendent Aaron Samuels says police are prepared to protect residents and visitors during Dream Weekend 2026, scheduled for July 30 to August 3 in Montego Bay. The five-day festival is expected to draw thousands of local and international patrons for its first staging in the city in 16 years. Murders in the parish have risen 25% since the start of the year, from 30 at this point last year to 37. Samuels described the increase as marginal, noting that the figure stood above 140 four years ago. He said officers will be deployed in large numbers for traffic management, with assistance from outside the parish, and teams will be positioned early as visitors begin arriving about a week ahead of the event. Residents and business operators have been urged to report anything untoward promptly and to work with police throughout the week.
Manchester police are investigating the fatal shooting of 57-year-old Andrew Williams at his home in the Trinity district near Porus. Relatives who went to check on him about 11:00 Thursday morning found his body bearing what appeared to be gunshot wounds. His brother, Gerard Williams, said the father of three was generous, kind and passionate about family, and that relatives were not expecting him to die in this manner after he had overcome several illnesses.

The Meteorological Service has warned that strong to very strong winds will continue to affect Jamaica and its territorial waters through the weekend, with the most severe conditions expected on Friday and Saturday. The agency said a low-level jet stream across the Caribbean Sea has been generating windy conditions since earlier in the week and is forecast to persist through Saturday as the system moves closer to the island. Very strong and possibly gale-force winds are expected, particularly across southern parishes and southern marine areas, including the Pedro and Morant banks. Fishers and other marine interests, especially along the south coast, are urged to exercise extreme caution.
