
Murders across Jamaica have fallen by 20.6 per cent since the start of the year, based on the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s latest crime data for January 1 to June 7.
The figures show that 235 people were killed up to Sunday, compared with 296 murders recorded over the same period last year.
St. James had the largest murder tally, with 34 cases. St. Andrew South followed with 22, while Clarendon and St. Andrew Central each registered 18 killings.
Portland had the fewest murders in the statistics, with two reported cases.
The JCF says reductions are also being seen across the other major crime categories. Shootings are down 29.2 per cent, while rape reports have fallen by 17.4 per cent.
Police recorded 240 robberies up to Sunday, a drop of 75 when measured against the 315 reported for the similar period last year.
Break-ins also declined, with 56 fewer cases than the 498 incidents reported up to June 7, 2025.
Taken together, the JCF says major crimes have decreased by 19.7 per cent.
