Murders Down Islandwide, But Increase Recorded In Manchester

Jamaica continues to record a significant decline in murders this year, but the gains are being overshadowed by sharp increases in at least one parish.

Figures from the Jamaica Constabulary Force show that 184 murders were recorded up to 2 May, down from 238 over the same period in 2025 — a decline of nearly 23 per cent.

However, Manchester is raising concern.

The parish has recorded 14 murders so far this year, up from just five during the corresponding period last year.

The latest case was a double murder in Farm district on Saturday, in which a man and woman were shot during a home invasion.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Dr Kevin Blake is renewing calls for Jamaicans to play their part in reducing violent confrontations with the police.

In his latest weekly column, the Commissioner expressed concern about recent incidents that have resulted in the loss of lives.

He made it clear that fatal outcomes are not the goal of police operations.
