Nigeria retained the Unity Cup with a 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the final at The Valley in South East London, as the Super Eagles again got the better of the Reggae Boyz in the competition’s title match.

The final was a repeat of last year’s meeting, when Nigeria defeated Jamaica on penalties. This time, the holders struck early and never allowed Jamaica to recover fully, using sharper finishing and firm defending to keep control of the match.

Jamaica entered the final seeking a first Unity Cup crown after beating India 2-0 earlier in the week. Nigeria had reached the decider after a semi-final win of their own, while Zimbabwe later secured third place with a 1-0 result against India.

The Reggae Boyz created moments of pressure, particularly through wide attacks and set pieces, but Nigeria’s back line held out when Jamaica tried to force a way back. Jamaica also made several second-half changes in search of fresh energy, including the introduction of Raheem Edwards, Kemar Bailey and other attacking options.

Nigeria doubled their advantage after the interval and added a late third to settle the final. Al Hassan Yusuf, named in the post-match interview as a two-goal scorer, said the win meant a great deal after Nigeria missed out on the World Cup. “We didn’t make the World Cup so we have to show that we are still here,” he said.

The result gave Nigeria a fourth Unity Cup title. Jamaica, beaten finalists for a second straight year against Nigeria, finished runners-up after another strong tournament showing but were left to regroup after failing to turn their chances into goals.
