NWC Working To Restore Water After Nationwide Power Failure

St. Ann

About 65,000 National Water Commission customers are still without water after the previous day’s islandwide electricity failure disrupted operations at several of the agency’s facilities.

Water Minister Matthew Samuda said nearly all NWC sites have resumed functioning, with only one still down. He explained that customers will not get supply back immediately because pipelines, treatment plants and storage systems may need about 24 hours to refill.

Samuda said the remaining offline facility is Minard in St. Ann, which is expected to return to service by this evening. He also noted that other facilities in several parishes continue to face difficulties.
