Eight-Year-Old's Screams Stop Old Harbour Break-In and Lead to Bus Conductor's Arrest

A 40-year-old bus conductor accused of breaking into a family dwelling on Bullet Lane in Old Harbour, St Catherine, early Wednesday morning was held by residents after an eight-year-old girl's shouts brought neighbours to the property.

The man is now in police custody on suspicion of burglary and larceny. Investigators have not released his name pending further inquiries.

Reports indicate that shortly before 5 a.m. on July 1, the complainant was at home when screams from her eight-year-old daughter jolted her awake. She went to investigate and found that a ZTE cellular phone, a power bank, and a night light had been taken from the house.

A closer look showed the intruder had entered by forcing open a rear door. The frightened mother raised an alarm, and persons living nearby responded. The suspect was reportedly seized before he could leave the area.

When he was checked, the man was allegedly found with the stolen items in his possession. Officers were called to the scene and took custody of him. He remains detained as the investigation continues.
