Transport Operators at Half Way Tree Renew Push for Fare Increase

A pivotal session is taking place at the Half Way Tree Transport Centre in St Andrew, where public transport operators are again calling for a fare adjustment they argue is long overdue, blaming steep international fuel prices that are now affecting Jamaica.
On Monday, Minister of Finance and the Public Service Fayval Williams and Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport Daryl Vaz indicated that the administration plans to engage transport operator associations and the Transport Authority on the issue.
Minister Vaz said officials recognise the pressure on passengers but must also account for the strain on operators. He called for restraint while the Government pursues an outcome that balances both sets of concerns.
Further updates are expected as discussions unfold.
