Opposition calls on Gov’t to publish complete list of ROOFS Programme beneficiaries since passage of Hurricane Melissa

Opposition Spokesperson on Social Protection and Social Transformation, Dr. Angela Brown Burke is calling on the Government to publish a complete list of ROOFS Programme beneficiaries since the passage of Hurricane Melissa last year.
The Restoration of Owner or Occupant Family Shelters (ROOFS) Programme is a Government initiative managed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to help households rebuild after Hurricane Melissa.
However, according to Dr. Brown-Burke there is need for full transparency as it relates to the programme.
She was speaking at a PNP press conference today on the recent Auditor General report on the real-time audit of the Hurricane Melissa relief initiative.
Dr. Brown Burke said the report highlighted that of the more than 400 roofs reportedly repaired under the programme, the AG could not identify one roof which was repaired to the required standard.
Dr. Brown-Burke noted that parish-by-parish breakdowns of the beneficiaries should be published along with the methods used to select individuals.
She also called for independent verification of reported repairs.
