Dream Weekend 2026 Launches in Montego Bay With Safety, Economic Boost in Focus

Dream Weekend 2026, one of Jamaica's biggest entertainment festivals, was officially launched in Montego Bay on Wednesday night ahead of the five-day event scheduled for later this month. At the ceremony, organisers, tourism officials, local leaders and the police said they are working to deliver another successful staging, with safety and crowd management placed at the centre of planning.

This year's staging also signals a fresh phase for the festival, with Montego Bay now serving as Dream Weekend's new home. Speakers at the launch presented the city as more than just a location, describing it as a place with its own distinctive lifestyle, while organisers said patrons can look forward to a strong slate of events across the five days.

St. James Mayor Richard Vernon said the festival is expected to bring a needed injection into the local economy, with gains likely for hotels, restaurants, transport operators and other small businesses. He said Dream Weekend would be "a catalyst for growth and renewal" and added that the St. James Municipal Corporation had been working with key stakeholders to make sure the event received the necessary approvals.

A Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce also supported the event, saying Jamaica remains open for business despite ongoing recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. The minister said Dream Weekend has, over the years, drawn thousands of visitors to Jamaica and thousands of Jamaicans to Negril, spreading spending through hotels, Airbnbs, vendors, ground transportation operators, retail outlets and the wider business network.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force said comprehensive security measures are already in place for the festival and urged patrons to follow the safety guidelines throughout the period. Police said they will work alongside organisers to keep the movement of visitors and patrons smooth and secure, with the aim of ensuring that the thousands expected in St. James feel safe from the moment they arrive. Organisers said months of preparation have gone into this year's staging and they are confident the festival will attract thousands of local and overseas visitors.
