OUR Sets Up Internal Team To Review JPS Blackout Report
The Office of Utilities Regulation has put together a dedicated in-house team to guide the Jamaica Public Service after JPS handed in its preliminary account of last Friday’s islandwide power failure.
In a statement issued today, the OUR said the group will handle required preparation work and later examine the final report to test its soundness, assess whether JPS’s recommendations are relevant, and consider the follow-up measures identified by the power company.
The regulator said the team may advise the OUR on what resources are needed, including whether outside specialists should be brought in, so the blackout can be reviewed in a full and careful manner.
The team is also empowered to put forward its own proposals and point to any regulatory steps that should be taken. OUR Director-General Ansord Hewitt said JPS’s preliminary incident report will help shape directions and matters arising after electricity service was restored.
