St Catherine Man Reports $346,000 Bank Fraud After Losing Wallet in Spanish Town

1 min readSt. Catherine

What began as a routine business trip to Spanish Town has turned into a major financial blow for a St Catherine man who lost his wallet and later found his bank account stripped of more than $346,000.

Detectives from the St Catherine North Police Division are treating the case as one involving unauthorised access to computer data and fraud.

Reports indicate that on July 16, the man travelled to Spanish Town on business. After he returned home, he discovered that his wallet was no longer with him.

Inside the wallet were $40,000 in cash, an ATM card, a driver's licence, and other important documents. The man went back over the places he had visited and tried to locate the missing items, but his efforts came up empty.

He then went to a branch of the National Commercial Bank (NCB) to request a replacement ATM card. While there, a customer service representative told him that several transactions had already been processed on his account.

Investigators say the activity included the purchase of cellular phones and a $50,000 withdrawal from an ATM in Spanish Town. In all, $346,000 was allegedly taken from the man's account.

The matter was reported to the Spanish Town Police, who have since opened an investigation into the fraud.
