Peter Bunting urges Jamaica to shift from stability to transformation

Peter Bunting, MP, used his closing remarks in Parliament to argue that Jamaica must now move beyond the stability he said defined the past 14 years and focus on transformation over the next decade.

Addressing Madame Speaker, Bunting said Jamaica’s challenge is not a lack of gifted people, drive or business-minded citizens. In his view, the country’s deeper weakness lies in systems that do not give Jamaicans the room or tools to reach their full ability.

He said workers, business operators and students should not be treated as the source of the problem. Instead, he argued, too many Jamaicans are being asked to perform at international standards while still navigating structures that are no longer fit for modern demands.

Bunting said stability had provided the base for progress, but the country’s purpose now has to be national transformation. He added that productivity must become the route to the prosperity Jamaicans have long been seeking.

He closed by saying that such a Jamaica is what the people deserve.
