Blake urges police restraint after fatal Granville shooting
Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake has called on members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to use measured judgement in their interactions with the public where circumstances allow.
His appeal comes after Latoya Bulgin was fatally shot by police in Granville, St. James.
In his weekly column published in the force orders, Dr. Blake said officers must develop the discipline and steadiness required for professional policing. He pointed to emotional maturity and professional resilience as essential qualities for the job.
The commissioner said police personnel should know when to show restraint and when courage is required. He also encouraged officers to draw on their training, keep improving their skills, learn from past encounters and seek advice from senior colleagues.
