Forensic probe continues as police hunt gunman who killed elderly bearer in Half Way Tree

Investigators are studying forensic material and coordinating with traders in Half Way Tree, St. Andrew, as they try to find whoever killed a bearer yesterday.
Lawrence Kessna, 68, of Seaview Gardens, was fatally shot by a gunman who tried to rob him as he left a bank. Kessna, who worked for a financial company, had encashed a cheque valued at 10 million dollars.
Accounts indicate that a man confronted Kessna and tried to take the knapsack holding the cash. When he could not get the bag, he fired on Kessna, striking him in the upper body and killing him. The gunman then fled on a motorcycle that had been waiting nearby.
The knapsack was turned over to the police.
Michael Phipps, Assistant Commissioner and head of Police Area 4, said lawmen will not allow criminals to turn commercial business centres into their hunting ground. He urged business operators to ensure they have strong security measures in place when transporting large amounts of cash.
