Police honours funeral held for Constable Keron Kellyman in St. Thomas
The Jamaica Constabulary Force held a police honours funeral on Sunday for Constable Keron Kellyman, badge number 22461, at the Church of the Firstborn Faith Gospel Chapel. Reverend Omar Morrison, assistant chaplain with the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, led the service, with Bishop Leroy Osborne moderating proceedings.
Kellyman enlisted in the JCF on 12 July 2021 and was posted to the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch East on 22 March 2022, serving with the Metro Quick Response Team. On 10 October 2025 he transferred to the Highway Safety Patrol Division in St. Thomas, where colleagues said he quickly showed dedication and a willingness to learn. He died on 28 April 2026.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Lloyd Derby, acting in charge of the branch, delivered the eulogy on behalf of the force. He said Kellyman was born on 4 February 2001, the second of two sons of Latoya Davis and Karen Heliman, and was raised in the White Hall area of St. Thomas. He attended White Hall Basic School and C4th Primary School, spent time at St. Thomas Technical High School, and completed secondary education at C4th High School. During his career he received no disciplinary citations and was described as quiet, reserved, punctual and professional.
Tributes came from the Jamaica Police Federation, branch colleagues, batch 134 training mates, his grandmother Joan Thompson, and relatives of witnesses he had supported. Batchmates recalled his humour, loyalty and habit of encouraging others during training. His grandmother remembered his warmth and a final meeting in Morant Bay. A cousin spoke of his pride in fatherhood after the birth of his son, Kissen.
Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake was represented at the service, and a tribute from him appeared in the funeral programme. Senior officers from across the force attended, along with family, friends and colleagues. The programme included scripture readings, hymns, prayers and a planned recessional to the family plot, where JCF honours continued with a flag-folding ceremony and presentation to Kellyman's mother, Latoya Davis.
Kellyman is survived by his parents, his son, siblings including Constable Rajim Heliman of the Portland Division, grandmothers Benita Steedman and Joan Samson, and other relatives.
