Police Fatally Shoot Alleged Gunman: A man known by the alias “Ren” was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with police in Quarry Hill, Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Friday morning.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when members of the St Catherine North Proactive Investigation Unit and the Area Fugitive Apprehension Team entered the community in search of gunmen, including the suspect.
Investigators said officers saw two men jumping over a fence behind a premises. The men were reportedly challenged by the police but allegedly opened fire at the officers.
Police say the officers took cover and returned fire as the shooting continued.
After the exchange, one of the men was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The deceased has been identified only by the alias “Ren”, a resident of Quarry Hill.
Police also reported the seizure of a Taurus pistol fitted with a magazine containing three 9mm cartridges.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting are now under investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), which routinely probes incidents involving police use of deadly force.
