Popcaan Lands First Official Drake Album Credit as Triple Release Spotlights Caribbean Talent

After years of close ties off the charts, Popcaan has finally earned a formal credit on a Drake studio album. He is not alone among Caribbean voices woven through the Canadian star’s three projects that landed on the same Friday.

The Unruly Boss shows up on Amazing Shape, the sixth cut on Maid of Honour, a 14-track set issued together with Iceman and Habibti. The same day added 43 fresh songs to Drake’s catalogue. For Popcaan, the moment closes a long loop: joint records such as Twist & Turn, All I Need, and We Caa Done lived on his own releases, and his work on Drake’s 2016 single Controlla never made the official album cut.

Popcaan once rolled with Drake’s OVO Sound imprint, putting out Vanquish in 2019, Fixtape in 2020, and Great Is He in 2023. He now operates as an independent artist.

Montego Bay beatmaker Justin “Mvssivh” Junagadala also touched the triple drop. He helped shape Ran To Atlanta on Iceman with Future and Molly Santana, and added production to New Bestie on Maid of Honour. On that track Drake slips into patois while shouting out Vybz Kartel: “Addi yah mi daddy, yah di teacha,” “big up the teacha,” and “mek Kartel get one line fi the teacha, Gaza grim reaper.”

Iceman’s National Treasures carries co-production from Toronto-based Jamaican Matthew “Boi-1da” Samuels. Which One, with Central Cee, lists songwriter Tyshane Thompson, the artist-producer known as BEAM and son of gospel singer Papa San.

Maid of Honour also leans into soca energy. Track seven, BBW, has caught Caribbean ears for leaning hard on Denise “Saucy Wow” Belfon’s Trinidadian anthem Work—the same foundation Shenseea and Megan Thee Stallion drew on for their 2022 single Lick. Producer Anastas “Pupa Nas-T” Hackett later filed a US$10 million copyright suit over that earlier sample; Shenseea and Interscope eventually settled with him.

Reporting from Pitchfork frames the three-album burst as Drake’s first solo rollout since 2023’s For All the Dogs, coming after his 2025 PARTYNEXTDOOR joint set $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. Iceman holds 18 songs, Maid of Honour 14, and Habibti 11.
