Fifteen-year-old held after fatal Portland stabbing in Jamaica crime roundup
Port Antonio police have a 15-year-old schoolboy in custody following a fatal stabbing on Foreshore Road near the bus park in Portland on Monday afternoon, shortly after 4:20.
The victim has been identified as German Ferguson, also known as Star Son. Police have not yet confirmed his age.
Initial reports indicate the teenager and three other schoolboys were gambling behind a public restroom close to the bus park when a dispute developed. The three youths reportedly left and returned with three adults, including Ferguson, who then attacked the accused. Police say the teenager used a knife during the altercation. Ferguson was taken to Port Antonio Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An investigation is continuing.
In St. Mary, Port Maria Mayor Fitzroy Williams has pushed back against claims that he acted aggressively in a viral video of an encounter with a member of the public. Williams said footage circulating online does not accurately reflect what happened during a drain-cleaning exercise carried out by the St. Mary Municipal Corporation ahead of the hurricane season.
He said the man directed expletives and threats at him and objected to drain works while other roads remained in poor condition. Williams maintained that the civilian invaded his personal space and held a phone close to his face, which he pushed aside without touching the man. He said police later escorted the man away because he was the aggressor, and that he has consulted his legal team about the clip.
At the St. James Parish Court, Constable Andrew Wilson, who is charged with murder in the May 17 shooting death of 45-year-old Latoya Bulgin, also called Bulgin Granville, was granted bail of $1 million with up to three sureties. Parish Judge Natisha Fickle-Filton, who was presiding, set conditions including residence at a specified address, reporting to a designated police station, and surrender of travel documents, with a stop order to be applied at all ports of entry.
Wilson was represented by attorneys Peter Champagnie and Michael Hemmings. The court heard the prosecution holds a statement from the owner of a CCTV camera that reportedly recorded events around Bulgin's death. Several prosecution documents, including the ballistic certificate, postmortem report, and forensic certificate, remain outstanding. The matter returns on July 10. Wilson was arrested and charged on June 3 after the director of public prosecutions ruled on May 29 that he should face murder charges. CCTV footage that circulated after the incident shows the officer firing at a vehicle driven by Bulgin, and the case drew protests in Granville.
