Portmore Man Charged Over Alleged Sexual Offences Against 12-Year-Old Girl
A 59-year-old man is facing criminal charges after police alleged that a 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Portmore, St Catherine, last week.
According to police reports, members of the Portmore Quick Response Team were carrying out patrol duties on Port Henderson Road about 8:30 p.m. Thursday when they noticed a Toyota Wish parked along the road.
The police said the child was subsequently found with the suspect in circumstances that led to his arrest. He was held on suspicion of forcible abduction, sexual grooming, and sexual touching of a child.
Investigators reported that the accused first met the girl in March and had allegedly formed a friendship with her before enticing her. Police also said he had earlier collected the child from a gas station in Naggo Head, Portmore, before the incident.
His name is being withheld to safeguard the complainant’s identity. Police said he was formally charged after additional investigations were carried out.
